Support for Adults

Starting in 2009, support began for young people whose life plan includes working, being part of the workforce that drives this country, and being recognized as individuals for their skills, experience, performance, and contributions to the growth and development of the companies where they work.

About our Adult Support Program

This is a stage in which it is necessary to continue supporting the person with Down syndrome, their environment, and their family. For this reason, the Corporation has designed several programs that respond to these needs.

- Continuing Education

The objective of this program is to maintain and/or develop cognitive, social, and emotional skills that enable them to continue participating meaningfully in different family, work, social, and community contexts within the framework of an inclusive vision, as well as skills related to their role that promote greater autonomy and independence, thus providing them with more tools to deal with everyday situations in their social and work environments. Training in self-management and prevention for an active and healthy older adulthood is also encouraged.

Three components are addressed: Personal Development, Strengthening Occupational Skills, and Cognitive Enrichment.

- Independent Adult Leaders - ALI

It is supported by the creation of recreational spaces with peers in inclusive environments, in activities appropriate to their role as adults, for the development of social skills and relationships with their environment.

It is characterized by a significant component of self-management, leadership, and decision-making by the adults who participate, given that the planning of activities, management, and development are led by them with a support system from the Corporation.

- Living Away from Home

It is targeted at adults seeking to practice independent living skills at home on weekends, including managing community services, managing money, managing free time, and developing planning skill

This program allows us to identify the support needs of each participant and define the adjustments necessary to achieve greater autonomy in preparation for independent living.

- Virtual Support for Adults - AVA

Since the pandemic began, a virtual support service for adults has been created to strengthen cognitive skills focused on budget management and cultural awareness, promoting research and the use of office software tools. It also provides opportunities for socialization and the exchange of interests. This service has reached adults who live in different cities or who, although residents of Bogotá, are unable to travel.

- Adult Wellness

Provide a wellness program for adults with SD, with the aim of improving and maintaining their physical, cognitive, emotional, and social-relational conditions, allowing them to lead a full life.
